"Nick Pelomis delivers a brilliant performance making a powerful impression with his directness, detailed sincerity and comic flair".- artshub.com.au
"The Event is a funny, distressing work that probes the membrane between literature and theatre, art and critique, fiction and reality" - The Age
"The Event is a must-see event in itself: funny, intelligent, insightful and thought-provoking. Performed and directed with great detail of interpretation, sincere emotional depth and respect towards the superb writing, it deals head-on with the enriching value of the theatrical experience and its relation to our everyday lives" - artshub.com.au
The Event is a comic and probing monologue that wittily deconstructs the theatrical experience, offering an insight into modern life.
Returning to Adelaide following successful seasons at the Sydney and Melbourne Fringes The Event is hugely acclaimed, beautifully conceived theatre, masterfully delivering a profound, thought-provoking, imaginative experience.
The Man stands in a pool of light on the stage. He is an actor. We know this because he tells us so, but also because our past experience tells us that this is what actors do. He appears to be intelligent, but this might just be clever direction. There is a huge gap between what we assume and what we actually know. And the more he tells us, the less we think for ourselves. We are truly in the dark. Who do we think he is?
The Event was originally produced by Absurdum International in association with Clancy Productions at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and performed by David Calvitto. This production was subsequently staged at the 2010 Adelaide Fringe Festival under the banner of Theatre Tours International in association with Absurdum International and is curretnly touring in the UK, Germany and Amsterdam.
