They've got issues

It has been said that the onlly way to get rich from a Self-Help book is to write one, and this satirical response to the ever-expanding self-improvement industry takes an equally sceptical stance.

Written by award-winning comic DeAnne Smith, critically acclaimed performer Sarah Quinn, and Aussie screenwriter Samual Booth, Other People's Problems premiered at the Adelaide Fringe in 2009 to rave reviews, and then went on to a sell-out season in Montreal.

The fast-moving comedy parodies the kinds of characters one finds on the frontiers of the self-help movement, where advice is a hot commodity, and comes with no money-back guarantee.

An unhinged life coach gives a questionable motivational seminar, a bubbly teenage videoblogger doles out teen-centric advice on the internet, and uptight Plain Jane takes matters into her own hands with a self-help sex tape.

Quinn, who performs the three short pieces solo, has been called "delightful", "dynamic" and "hilarious" in past reviews, and inhabits each delightfully misguided character with relish. With equal measures of dark, tender and savage moments, this topical comedy promises to let you forget about your own issues for a while, and have a solid laugh at somebody else's.

"Beautifully written, balancing some darker lessons with a healthy dose of humour. Sarah Quinn is magnificent" - Adelaide Advertiser

"Mega-talented Aussie thespian Sarah Quinn could probably match the energy level of most multi-human theatre companies...delivers multi-layered, dynamo performances." Montreal Gazette

"The writing is astute, and Quinn's performance affecting and funny...she effortlessly plays several characters.....and the show employs techniques used to prey on people's fears and insecurities to make its point"  Louise Nunn - The Advertiser (4 stars)

"Its a sure plan: take other people's problems, raid them for comedy and pathos, and then send Sarah Quinn on stage to dramatize (with considerable aplomb) the spoils........Sarah Quinn's is the most arresting performance I've observed at this year's Fringe...Ben Aitken - Adelaide Theatre Guide
