The Stone Lion

The stone lion dreams of being alive.  Will the gargoyle be able to help him fulfil his dream?  Featuring amazing puppetry designed by Elizabeth Millington (MTC). Children (and adults) are encouraged to join in with the original songs written by Tim Smith (The Lion King) & Luke Hunter (Jersey Boys). 

Fresh from a sellout tour of the east coast, Meerkat Productions presents an original musical adaptation of The Stone Lion by Margaret Wild.

The Stone Lion was shortlisted for the 2015 Children's Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the Year and will come to life with beautiful original songs written by Tim Smith (The Lion King, Legally Blonde) & Luke Hunter (Grease, Jersey Boys) and featuring amazing puppetry designed by Elizabeth Millington (Melbourne Theatre Company). Children (and adults) are encouraged to join in with the songs & dancing.

Our shows are seen by over 50,000 children each year and we specialise in adapting children’s literature for the stage; creating fresh and vibrant productions which prompt discussion and debate.

School excursions are supported with a teacher's resource pack which contains games and activities to use before and after the show.

We are a Melbourne based, nationally touring theatre company, owned and operated by qualified teachers. We perform at private functions, schools, libraries and public events across VIC, NSW, ACT, SA, QLD & TAS. Many of the company’s creative team and performers have teaching degrees and a great diversity of experience to bring to each show. Our role (and our passion) is to empower children by entertaining them with theatre. We choose to tackle the issues that are difficult for teachers to raise in the classroom. Our shows enable students and teachers to engage in the conversations they must have and our teacher resources enable them to handle the discussion effectively.
