Not a Very Good Story

Monday, 22 February 2016 to Saturday, 12 March 2016

22-27 Feb @ 9pm    29 Feb- 5 Mar @ 6pm   7-12 Mar @ 6pm

A simple, quiet and utterly gripping story, that is funny and terrifying at the same time.

Nominated for a Green Room award in 2013, this one woman show is inspired by the real life cancer cluster at the ABC Studios in Toowong Queensland.  Written and performed by May Jasper, internationally touring performer, published playwright and winner of the inaugural Moth storytelling slam in Melbourne.

Stephanie is sweet, awkward and very ordinary.  She loves mystery novels and Disney films.  She doesn’t like fish.

Stephanie is in love.  With one of the office cleaners, at work.  The cleaner’s name is Jen.  When Stephanie sees her she smiles very wide.

Stephanie’s work is her whole world.  But now, people at work are starting to get sick.  It’s a lot of people, very quickly.  And no one knows why.

“A terrific show, poignant and sharply funny”
- The Age

“Incredibly engaging.  Jasper’s creation and delivery of the character of Stephanie is endearing and powerfully gentle.”

3 1/2 STARS -- Jasper fleshes out her characters with empathy and humour, and highlights an important issue in a thoughtful, entertaining way.
The Advertiser - Louise Nunn
5. STARS - “not a very good story” is unassuming, unpretentious, sweet, funny, and very moving. It is, in short, a very good story.
